What does George Washington have to do with Valentine’s Day?
First off, we love Washington, so let’s just get that out of the way.
Washington was born February 11, 1799. Twenty years later, the British (and American colony) adopted the Gregorian calendar, so along with just about everybody else at the time, Washington’s birthday shifted — in his case, from February 11 to February 22.
That makes Valentines Day the perfect time to celebrate our first president, founding father, military officer, and statesman, George Washington!
Join us February 13, at 12 noon or at 2 pm at the Vine and Leaf tea shop for a history talk by Dale Corey of the SAR.
Cost: $20 at the door. Tea, dainties, and good company included.
