From the First Battle of Manassas in the summer of 1861 through Jackson's Valley Campaign in the spring of 1862, Front Royal and Warren County were home to one major hospital and several minor hospitals serving Confederate sick and wounded. Fighting and camping in Northern Virginia by the tens of thousands, Confederate soldiers were steadily sent behind the lines for treatment to Warren County for the first year of the war. Come and learn about the vast hospital complex which more than doubled the population of Front Royal at the height of its operation. Learn also about Warren County's other smaller hospitals and medical treatment here during the Civil War.
